Happy Friday!

This newsletter is all about making art as resistance, providing inspiration, ideas, and more.

In this issue: In good times and bad, make art⚡️

Making art in Chicago

Cuban Reel-to-Reel listening party at Nighthawk in Chicago

NPR visited two community centers in Chicago that feature art as a major form of resistance. The city is still reeling from ICE raids, but a bar in Albany Park and a Muslim community center in Englewood are offering hopeful, community-led, art-based spaces for safety, community, and exploration.

It meant creating a third space and having things that folks may not have access to otherwise, like art-making, drawing, painting, conversations about current events.

I often dream about creating a space like this here in Iowa. Then I remember I'm autistic and being around people can be hard : ) But I applaud any creators that can make IRL places like this to prove art is resistance!

Protest art reigns

The last couple weeks have seen some terrific guerrilla art installations, and art in the face of censorship. Here's the latest:

An artist brought 'I.C.E. pops' to a Texas campus & it was shut down

Secret Handshake strikes again: The Iran War Participation Trophy

Whitney Museum screens taken over with Gaza protest

I'm reading: The Expert of Subtle Revisions, by Kirsten Menger-Anderson. A slow burn mystery, one that builds into a world-shaking revelation. Highly recommend.

I'm watching: Some of the best from Good Hang. Amy Poehler's video podcast is a lovely break from the world. This week is Will Ferrell; some of my past favorites (which I rewatch again and again) include Paul Rudd, Kate McKinnon, Will Forte, and Adam Scott.

I'm listening to: I've got "Blood Ties" by Rowena Wise on repeat.

I'm sharing:

P.S. Among the many classic moments Will Ferrell has provided, he's pretty phenomenal as an awards presenter. This is one of my favorites.
